Well Done, Team! Celebrating 20 Years of Innovation in Solar Street Lighting
Dubai, July 2025 – This month marks a major milestone for Gemma Lighting and its pioneering partnership with the Dubai Government 20 years since the launch of the world’s first modern, urban-scale solar street lighting installation.
In 2005, the Dubai Government’s bold sustainability vision aligned with the expertise of UK-based manufacturer Gemma Lighting. Together, they delivered a groundbreaking solar lighting project that revolutionised public infrastructure and set a new global standard for solar adoption in cities. Not only was it a regional first—it was a landmark global innovation that continues to influence solar lighting standards across the Gulf and beyond.
Reflecting on this achievement, Craig Manuel, CEO of Gemma Lighting, shared:

Today, two decades later, Gemma Lighting is once again pushing boundaries, leading the rollout of solar street lighting across the UK. Thanks to significant advancements in battery storage, LED efficiency, and solar PV technology, the company has engineered a next-generation solar system capable of meeting adoptable road standards (P4–P6) and performing reliably throughout the year, even during the British winter.
