This year marks a decade since Darwen Terracotta rose from the ashes of a historic British ceramics manufacturer, reigniting a legacy that traces back to the late 1800s.
Darwen Terracotta was born with a clear mission: to rescue, restore, and recreate the timeless beauty of terracotta architecture using traditional techniques, enriched with modern precision.
Today, the company proudly stands as the UK’s largest architectural terracotta and faience manufacturer, trusted by architects, conservation bodies, and contractors nationwide. From Grade-listed buildings to bold contemporary landmarks, Darwen Terracotta has helped shape and preserve the UK’s built environment over the past decade.
Some of the company’s most iconic UK projects include:
- Homerton College, University of Cambridge (Award-winning restoration)
- The Londoner Hotel, Leicester Square
- Harrods Department Store, London
- Piccadilly Circus Underground Station, London
- Leeds Playhouse, and many more
While the company’s foundation is proudly British, the journey has not stopped at the UK’s borders. Darwen Terracotta’s expertise has been called upon internationally, contributing to major restoration works such as the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, the award-winning First Congregational Church in Long Beach, California, and New York landmarks including 575 West End Avenue and the Martinique Hotel.
As a proud Made in Britain member, the company is also honoured to have received national recognition, winning two Red Rose Awards in the categories of ‘Made in Lancashire’ and ‘Export’, celebrating both regional roots and growing global impact.
Jon Wilson, Co-founder of Darwen Terracotta, shares:
“This anniversary is more than a celebration of 10 years in business—it’s a tribute to our customers, partners, and team members who’ve made it possible. From day one, we’ve been driven by passion: for materials, for heritage, and for doing things the right way. We’ve had the privilege of contributing to some truly remarkable projects that will stand for generations.
Being able to grow from our Lancashire base while staying true to traditional skills—and seeing our work exported around the world—is something we’re incredibly proud of. We’re especially thankful to our UK clients who’ve trusted us again and again over the past decade.”
As one of the last remaining British manufacturers dedicated solely to architectural terracotta, Darwen Terracotta continues to invest in skills, people, and materials that honour the past while building for the future.
