Colchester, Essex — Rose Calendars, one of the UK’s longest-established calendar manufacturers, recently welcomed fifth-generation family member Bertie Rose for a summer work placement.
A third-year International Business student at Oxford Brookes University, Bertie returned to the family firm after a year in industrial placements as part of his degree. The placement offered him the chance to gain first-hand experience across the breadth of Rose Calendars’ operations, from Marketing, Production and Customer Services to Artwork & Prepress, Finance, and HR.
Designed to provide a complete view of the company’s inner workings, the placement allowed Bertie to connect academic theory with practical application. “It’s been fascinating to experience the business from the inside — not just as a family member, but as someone who’s grown up around it,” he said. “I now have a deeper appreciation for the detail and care that goes into every stage of calendar production, and I’ve learned so much that I hadn’t previously been aware of.”
During his time with the business, Bertie played a key role in introducing a staff development programme in partnership with iHASCO, streamlining training delivery through iPads and ensuring employees could access the latest learning modules. His contribution supported Rose Calendars’ ongoing commitment to workplace wellbeing and skills development.
Michael Rose, Managing Director, commented: “We were delighted to have Bertie join us this summer. His fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and willingness to engage with every department have been invaluable. Seeing the next generation take such an active interest in the business is incredibly rewarding for us all.”
