Flying the flag for British CNC Machining at Newport’s Aerospace Events

As a proud Made in Britain member based in North-East Wales, Tarvin Precision recently headed to Newport for a packed aerospace schedule - combining the Regional Aerospace Alliances (RAA) Mix & Mingle and annual dinner with the ATI Conference at ICC Wales.

Across both events, one theme kept coming up in conversations: the critical role of British, high-quality manufacturing in delivering the next generation of aircraft.

A Newport Double-Header for British Aerospace

Over two days in Newport we were able to:

  • Connect with OEMs, Tier 1s and fellow SMEs from across Britain's aerospace ecosystem
  • Hear first-hand about upcoming programmes, capacity challenges and supply chain priorities
  • Share how British CNC machining capability can help shorten lead times and de-risk complex projects

For us, it was an ideal platform to showcase what a British, AS9100 and ISO9001 certified precision engineering business can bring to modern aerospace programmes.

Regional Networking with the RAA

At the Regional Aerospace Alliances' Mix & Mingle and Annual Dinner, the spotlight was firmly on regional strength and collaboration.

Conversations circled around:

  • How to make better use of local, approved suppliers
  • The importance of reliable partners for low-to-medium volume, high-complexity machining
  • Ways SMEs can support primes and Tier 1s with responsive lead times and agile problem-solving

As a precision machining business located right next to major UK aerospace activity, we were able to underline a simple message:

There is serious CNC machining for aerospace capacity available here in Britain - ready to support demanding projects without going overseas.

ATI Conference 2025: Innovation, Efficiency and Destination Zero

The ATI Conference at ICC Wales zoomed out to the big picture: ultra-efficient aircraft, cleaner propulsion and Destination Zero.

Breakout sessions and panel discussions highlighted that achieving these ambitions depends on:

  • Fast, high-quality prototype and development machining
  • Robust, traceable supply chains that regulators and customers can trust
  • Close collaboration between primes, Tier 1s, SMEs and technology partners

That’s exactly where UK precision engineering has a key role to play - ensuring that innovative designs can be turned into real components, assemblies and test hardware quickly and reliably, without crossing borders.

Why ‘Made in Britain’ Mattered in Conversations

Throughout our time in Newport, the Made in Britain mark felt directly relevant to the challenges being discussed:

  • Supply Chain Resilience - Sourcing CNC machined components and assemblies within Britain reduces logistics risk, shortens response times and keeps communication simple.
  • Certified Quality at Home - With AS9100 and ISO9001 certifications and regular audits by major aerospace customers, Tarvin Precision can deliver the level of quality and traceability expected on critical programmes - while still being a flexible SME providing subcontract cnc machining.
  • Supporting Jobs and Skills - Placing work with Made in Britain members helps sustain high-value engineering skills, apprenticeships and long-term career opportunities in British manufacturing.
  • Proximity to Major Programmes - Being on the doorstep of major aerospace facilities means we can respond quickly, support urgent requirements and build strong, long-term partnerships.
