It all starts with play

Sutcliffe Play were delighted to sponsor and attend the official launch of Play England’s new 10-year strategy – ‘It All Starts with Play!’ – in the House of Commons yesterday.

The breakfast event, which also saw the surprise announcement of a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Play, was hosted by Tom Hayes MP - who has been instrumental in putting play at the heart of the political agenda alongside Play England. The gathering welcomed around 80 special guests to Parliament’s Terrace Pavilion, including a wide array of MPs, Lords, sector leaders, and champions of play from across the country.

The 10-year strategy lays out the next steps to achieve the ultimate aim of making England a fully child-friendly country, and enshrining the right of all children to play. The APPG, meanwhile, will bring together a cross-party group of MPs committed to the cause, who will meet regularly in Parliament and seek to influence legislation.

As one of the UK’s foremost play manufacturers, we were proud to attend this key event as a principal sponsor, led by our new Managing Director Rob Speirs, and Chairman Robin Sutcliffe – the founder of the modern Sutcliffe Play. For decades, our business has been at the forefront of efforts to extend the lifelong benefits of play to every child, and as a longstanding member of Made In Britain, we produce thousands of pieces of play equipment in our West Yorkshire factory every year - creating good jobs for over 60 local people whilst giving a huge boost to the area’s economy.

Joining Made in Britain’s Green Growth Programme in 2022, meanwhile, was a recognition of our commitment to ethical, responsible manufacturing which minimises our impact on the environment – a commitment which has already delivered a massive 47% reduction in carbon emissions since 2020.

We were thrilled that the capabilities of our standout team were on full display in the Terrace Pavilion, as we showcased one of our latest creations: our fully wheelchair-accessible Small Inclusive Roundabout. For us, this was another special moment on a hugely significant day for children’s play in England, and we were honoured to witness this vital cause take an exciting leap forward in the heart of the capital.
