Lib Dem Deputy Leader visits factory where “British manufacturing solves real-world problems”

A Made in Britain member at the forefront of environmental monitoring welcomed the Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader to its St Albans factory this month, as political momentum grows behind calls to support UK manufacturers.

Daisy Cooper MP (pictured), who is the Member of Parliament for St Albans and has served as the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats since 2020, visited the Meteor Communications factory to learn more about the crucial work being done by the Made in Britain member company.

Meteor Communications, a specialist in water quality and flood monitoring technology, develops advanced, British-made systems for water companies and the Environment Agency. During the visit, Daisy Cooper toured the manufacturing site and learned more about how the company’s technology is helping to protect the environment, infrastructure, and public health across the UK.

Meteor’s Managing Director, Matt Dibbs, guided the tour and demonstrated how the company’s camera and sensor-based systems capture real-time data and imagery to monitor water conditions, detect contamination, and assess flood risks. From stringent quality controls to the deployment of smart field equipment, the tour gave an insight into the company's hands-on approach to solving urgent environmental challenges through innovation.

Simon Boyd, Executive Director at Made in Britain (pictured), said: “Members like Meteor Communications showcase the brilliant manufacturing work that takes place here in Britain, and it was an honour to welcome Daisy Cooper MP to their factory for a look at the water monitoring solutions they have created to make real change in the community.

“That is truly what being Made in Britain is all about: solving real problems for real people, using the power of British manufacturing to do so.”

The visit comes amid renewed political interest in strengthening Britain’s industrial base. The Liberal Democrats recently called for a nationwide “Buy British” campaign, aimed at boosting domestic production and protecting jobs, following the introduction of tariffs from the United States earlier this year. The Made in Britain initiative, which promotes UK-based manufacturers through its trusted marque, shares this ethos of championing homegrown innovation and economic resilience.

Made in Britain will be attending all major party conferences this autumn, including the Liberal Democrat Conference in Bournemouth this September. Daisy Cooper has been invited to visit the organisation’s stand to learn more about the resilience, innovation, and community value embedded in UK manufacturing today.
