Shaping the future of sustainable cold chain: Hemsec at the Cold Chain Federation’s Parliamentary Reception

Key Members of the Industry Bringing our Sector’s Voice to Westminister.

On May 21, 2025 Hemsec proudly attended the Cold Chain Federation’s Annual Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons, a key event for the UK’s temperature-controlled logistics industry. This exclusive, member-only gathering brought together over 150 industry leaders and policymakers to highlight the cold chain’s essential role in the UK economy and its critical future.

A key focus this year was the Three Degree Challenge, a science-backed initiative proposing to raise the standard frozen food storage temperature from -18°C to -15°C. Backed by research, this small shift could lead to up to 10% energy savings across the cold chain, contributing significantly to carbon emissions reduction while maintaining food safety and integrity.

“A Movement that Leads the Conversation on Climate Responsibility and Future-Proofing.”
The Federation also presented its Cold Chain Manifesto, outlining strategic policy recommendations to support the sector’s sustainability, innovation, and infrastructure growth.

Hemsec was represented by Tim Kay and Florence Logan, who joined industry peers and parliamentarians in championing a low-carbon, future-ready cold chain.

“It’s great to be part of a movement that not only supports the cold chain’s operational excellence but also leads the conversation on climate responsibility and future-proofing,” said Florence Logan.
