Sustainability at Pure Vista

At Pure Vista, we are always looking for new ways to improve our products and sustainability. With buildings and construction contributing to 39% of the UK’s total carbon emissions, greener construction is the key to reducing waste and carbon emissions. Being transparent about how products are made and their environmental impact is crucial for encouraging industries to adapt to climate change. With this in mind, we are excited to announce that we have partnered with WSP, to provide EPD data for our POSIglaze, POSIone and MEGAgrip balustrade systems.

What does EPD stand for?

Environmental product declaration- this is a document that transparently reports the environmental impact of a product or material.  This is based on a product life-cycle assessment (LCA).

What is LCA?

LCA stands for life-cycle assessment.  The LCA is a comprehensive assessment of the environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle of a product, material, process or other measurable activity.  The analysis covers various stages such as raw material extraction, manufacturing, transportation, and disposal.

These stages, known as system modules, are defined by the EPD standard EN15804. The world’s leading standard for environmental product declarations. The modules specify the processes and stages included or excluded in a product’s life cycle assessment.

The stages covered in our LCA studies are cradle to gate (A1-A3), end-of-life modules C1–C4, and benefits and loads beyond the system boundary (D) and additional modules (A4 and A5).

EPDs support carbon emission reduction targets by enabling comparisons of the environmental impacts of different materials and products, helping to select the most sustainable option for buildings or infrastructure.

Who uses an EPD?

  •  Architects, engineers, and designers can use an EPD to choose the most sustainable option for their project by viewing a manufacturer’s EPD assessment.
  • Manufacturers can use an EPD to improve processes and design and encourage them to optimise their products’ environmental impact.

Recycling Aluminium

Our frameless glass balustrade channels, POSIglaze, POSIone and MEGAgrip are made from aluminium.  Aluminium, like all metals, is composed of atoms bonded together and formed in a crystal structure. This makes aluminium easy to melt and reform into a solid state without changing its fundamental properties. This means aluminium can be recycled again and again, almost infinitely, making it an incredibly sustainable material.

Recycling aluminium requires up to 95% less energy than production from ore, avoiding emissions, including greenhouse gases.

The Importance of an EPD to Pure Vista

At Pure Vista, we fully support the idea that EPDs are extremely important in changing and improving the building and construction industry.  We believe that openly and transparently sharing our environmental product data will help to encourage research and development across our sector.

As we move forward, we will use the information provided by the EPD to make informed decisions concerning product development, manufacture and transportation.  We are currently researching how we can use more recycled and recyclable in our products. Ensuring our environmental impact is minimal and our products are the best they can be.

Our EPD certification is issued by The International EPD® System and can be viewed on the database by visiting www.environdec.com.
