Unity Doors is proud to support Fire Door Safety Week 2025

Unity Doors is proud to support Fire Door Safety Week

Since its inception in 2013, Unity Doors has been strong ambassadors of the Fire Door Safety cause – uniting with our industry to help drive the standards when it comes to fire door safety.

As a leader in high-performance fire door solutions, at Unity Doors we’ve been proudly supporting Fire Door Safety Week since the initiative began. This year once again we will be showing our support and will be championing the campaign throughout the week by sharing essential insights and handy guides to help specifiers, customers and residents, conform when it comes to fire door safety.

Putting Fire Door Safety in the Spotlight

Organised by the British Woodworking Federation, Fire Door Safety Week was born out of quite a troubling history: too many fire doors left uninspected, poorly maintained or incorrectly installed. This national campaign is an inspirational and collective reminder of how essential fire doors are in protecting lives, buildings, and limiting damage when every second counts!

What does a fire door actually do?
In everyday use, a fire door looks and acts like any standard door. But in a critical moment of fire, it does so much more. Engineered for fire performance, it’s a passive safety system in commercial, public, and multi-occupancy buildings that helps saves lives in 5:

  1. Contains fire and smoke for a specified time
  2. Enables safe evacuation and escape
  3. Minimises structural damage
  4. Buys critical time for emergency responders
  5. And ultimately, helps saves lives

The Importance of Fire Door Compliance

Fire Door Safety Week is an essential event in our industry calendar and is vital in helping to raise awareness of the critical role fire doors play in saving lives and property in the event of fire.

As always the British Woodworking Federation communication’s team has raised the bar in terms of its campaign initiative. This year the theme “Where Are We Now?” serves to reinforce the necessary urgence in order to advance improvements in the industry. The first seminar of Fire Door Safety Week is dedicated to this very subject.

The statistics are startling.

There is a wealth of important information regarding fire doors on the British Woodworking Federation’s website, but we’ve drawn out the essential statistics regarding fire door awareness here too:

‘Lives are at risk’ – lack of knowledge over faulty doors leading to under-reporting
21% said the reason they wouldn’t report in future is because they don’t think anything would get done
Almost half (49%) didn’t feel it’s their responsibility to report a faulty fire door

A lack of knowledge over what constitutes a faulty fire door leads to under-reporting, with 29% of respondents saying they wouldn’t report a faulty fire door for this reason – putting themselves and others at risk.
Worryingly, 21% said the reason they wouldn’t report in future is because they don’t think anything would get done. Almost half (49%) didn’t feel it’s their responsibility to report a faulty fire door.
It wasn’t just issues with spotting and reporting problems that were prevalent, there was also a lack of understanding over the purpose of fire doors and how they function. More people believed that a fire door aids in stopping the spread of fire (46%) than the spread of smoke (32%). Only a fully functioning fire door will protect property and life from fire and smoke, with smoke inhalation being the main cause of fire-related deaths.

We’ve very proud to once again be supporting the British Woodworking Federation, as we have since the inception of Fire Door Safety Week. Over the course of the week we will be providing essential information regarding the safety checks needed to ensure fire doors are fit for purpose. Do keep checking back.

“Fire Door Safety Week is an key date in the fire door calendar and extremely important in helping reinforce the importance and key roles fire doors have in protecting lives and property. Throughout the week we have a number of initiatives planned, including our own team getting involved in some fire door installation training! We will share more as the week goes on! But keep checking back.” Ahmed Loonat, Sales & Marketing Manager, Unity Doors.
Insights. Guidance & Support

Throughout the week, Unity Doors will be sharing technical insights, expert best-practices, and practical guidance on LinkedIn; because awareness paired with action is the only way to push standards higher.

Fire Door Safety Week is more than a campaign. It’s our chance to remind everyone that a fire door is only as strong as its weakest component, and only as reliable as its most recent inspection. At Unity Doors, we are honoured to play our part, again, in supporting this cause.
