Made in Britain connects companies to NHS Supply Chain

On 24th June, Made in Britain hosted an exclusive online session with NHS Supply Chain, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) procurement delivery partner. NHS Supply Chain is responsible for sourcing, delivering, and supplying healthcare products, services, and food for NHS trusts and healthcare organisations.

NHS Supply Chain plays a crucial role in supporting NHS procurement, managing an estimated £4.5 billion in procurement spend annually as of September 2023.

Supplying through NHS Supply Chain offers a number of benefits, including a single route to market for suppliers instead of having to go through more than 250 NHS trusts.

The session covered:

Access and Onboarding: Registration, portals, preferred supplier status, and routes into NHS procurement.
Demand Visibility: Understanding what NHS Supply Chain needs and how suppliers can align their offer.
Innovation & Trials: How to introduce and pilot new products or solutions within NHS Supply Chain settings.
Procurement Decision Factors: The role of price, sustainability, green credentials and Social Value in supplier selection.

77 companies registered for the session, to listen, discuss and ask questions. Attendees raised questions about registering as a supplier, arranging demonstrations and product trials, and the extent to which NHS Supply Chain consider green credentials when awarding contracts. There were also questions on pipeline visibility and key product categories, as well as current priorities surrounding resilience and emergency preparedness.

The session also provided the opportunity to share information on the upcoming Environmental & Social Value (ESV) Certification, developed in collaboration with MAP UK & International for Made in Britain companies. Designed specifically for UK companies, particularly SMEs, the ESV Certification is a practical, rapid, and accessibly priced (£390 excluding VAT) way to promote the positive impact of your company, and to gain a new commercial edge in a highly competitive UK market. With a focus on your UK-based operations and impact, even if you're part of a global business, using language aligned with UK procurement priorities and regulations. More information on ESV will be released in the coming weeks.

The session was hosted and facilitated by George Middleton, Advisor to Made in Britain and Director at MAP UK & International.  It took place as part of Made in Britain’s ongoing supply chains support programme.  Previous sessions include those with Babcock, NATO, Leidos, Cabinet Office and Crown Commercial Service.
