Environmental and Social Value

Made in Britain’s commitment to an Environmentally Sustainable and Socially Responsible Future

Made in Britain recognises the critical role of the manufacturing sector in driving an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible economy. We are committed to support our members to succeed through increasingly adopting progressive Environmental and Social Value (ESV) practices.  Made in Britain’s commitment includes reducing the 'circularity gap' by promoting successful pro-environmental actions of our members and encouraging the production of British products with less reliance on virgin raw materials and increased use of recycled or reusable materials.

Made in Britain ESV Assessment

The Made in Britain ESV Assessment offers an increasingly holistic evaluation of our member’s contributions to the environment and society.  We are enhancing alignment with the UK’s Public Services (Social Value) Act that influences and informs how the UK government and its supply chains buy products and services.  This means that companies that complete the Assessment can also, where appropriate, use it for competitive advantage when bidding for contracts directly or indirectly attached to the circa £390 billion (2022/23) spent on goods and services by the UK government each year.

This Assessment is tailored exclusively for Made in Britain members and measures performance in areas imperative to fostering a balance across of social, environmental, and economic benefits.

The ESV assessment has been tailored to align with the operational and strategic priorities of the manufacturing sector. This targeted approach ensures that the evaluation criteria are particularly relevant to the processes, practices, and innovations prevalent within manufacturing. As a result, manufacturers are well-equipped to demonstrate their strengths and achievements across various ESV areas.
