Made in Britain connects manufacturers to discuss exporting to the USA and Canada

On 15 July, Made in Britain delivered an online session to support UK manufacturing companies to export to the USA and Canada.

Presentations we provided by:

  • Two Made in Britain companies, 9Barista and Button-fix Limited
  • The Department for Business and Trade’s International Markets Hub team, offering support and advice for UK exporters
  • The UK Export Academy, providing details of free training and resources for UK businesses looking to grow their international sales

The US remains the UK’s largest export market for goods and services, and the world’s largest economy. In the four quarters to the end of Q3 2024, UK exports to the US totalled £182.6 billion

The US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal, signed in May this year, opens up opportunities for UK businesses, along with a shared language and relatively low regulatory barriers.

Canada, while a smaller market, is the UK’s 12th largest export destination, with £16.4 billion in UK exports over the same period. Its close proximity to the US, demand for UK-made products, and openness to high-quality, sustainable manufacturing make it a valuable and strategic market for British exporters looking to expand across North America.

Made in Britain recognises the value of businesses talking with their peers, and this session facilitated that for UK exporters wanting to hear real, practical examples, directly from the exporters themselves. Whether it’s an exporter venturing into North America for the first time or one with extensive experience in the market, this session provided valuable insights.

Around 80 companies registered for the session to listen, discuss, and ask questions.

The session was hosted and facilitated by Advisor to Made in Britain and Director at MAP UK & International, George Middleton. It took place as part of Made in Britain’s International Trade Programme.
