Online Sessions
The International Trade programme includes online sessions that cover key markets identified in Made in Britain’s export survey as holding the most interest for UK manufacturing companies. Each online session will feature presentations and Q&A by Made in Britain companies plus insights from Department for Business and Trade (DBT) experts and the Export Academy. Here is a look ahead of planned activities designed to support Made in Britain members with the growth of exports:
Latin America (Post-CPTPP Entry into Force)
• Date: Tuesday 25th February, 11.00 - Midday
• Focus: Exporting to Latin America, with discussions on the CPTPP’s impact after it comes into force, including a specific look at the following countries: Chile, Mexico and Peru.
Along with those countries, the UK is now a member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), of which Mexico, Peru and Chile are members. Bilateral trade with Mexico, Peru and Chile combined reached £8.4 billion in 2019. By joining this dynamic trading bloc (representing 13% of the world’s GDP), it aligns with the UK’s commitment to global free and fair trade and demonstrates UK’s renewed emphasis on increasing trade & investment with Latin America and the Caribbean.
Europe
• Date: April 2025
• Focus: Exporting to European markets.
Europe remains the UK’s largest trading partner, with exports to the continent making up a significant portion of the UK’s total export market. In 2022, the UK exported £340 billion of goods and services to the EU, 42% of total UK exports. The 2023 export survey highlighted that Europe continues to be a top destination for Made in Britain members, offering proximity, established trade relationships, and significant market size.
USA and Canada
• Date: July 2025
• Focus: Opportunities and processes for exporting to USA and Canada.
United States was the UK’s largest trading partner in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024 accounting for 17.7% of total UK trade. Total trade in goods and services (exports plus imports) between the UK and United States was £309.2 billion in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, an increase of 1.4% or £4.4 billion in current prices from the four quarters to the end of Q1 2023. North America offers vast opportunities due to its large consumer base and demand for high-quality products.
Canada was the UK’s 16th largest trading partner in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, accounting for 1.5% of total UK trade. Total trade in goods and services (exports plus imports) between the UK and Canada amounted to £25.8 billion in the four quarters to the end of Q1 2024, representing a slight decrease of 1.1% or £277 million in current prices compared to the same period ending in Q1 2023. UK exports to Canada increased by 1.7%, reaching £16.1 billion. Canada's well-established market and its proximity to the US offer strong opportunities for trade expansion.
Middle East
• Date: September 2025
• Focus: Exporting to the Middle East.
Insights from the Made in Britain’s export survey revealed that countries in the Middle East, such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia, were among the top 10 stand-out markets for the number of exporting UK manufacturers. In the four quarters leading to the end of Q1 2024, total UK exports to the United Arab Emirates amounted to £15.2 billion. The UAE was the UK’s 18th largest trading partner during this period, accounting for 1.4% of total UK trade.
