Jatinder Tank, Oxford Blue

“We find it important to provide these jobs to local companies, local businesses and local people because I've been born and bred here in Birmingham.”
Jatinder Tank, Oxford Blue

Birmingham-based Oxford Blue works with a trusted network of British suppliers to craft high-quality garments at affordable prices. Established in 1968, the company began as a ‘by chance’ venture when Jatinder Tank’s grandfather immigrated from Punjab, India. The business has since passed through three generations, from his grandfather to his father in the early 1970s, and now to Jatinder, who serves as Director.

From just two machines to around sixty within two decades, Oxford Blue quickly grew into a thriving manufacturer. However, the rise of cheaper overseas production led to reduced output and partial closures. Today, as demand for British-made garments increases, Jatinder highlights the advantages of offering small, high-quality production runs, a flexibility that many overseas manufacturers can’t match.

As Jatinder says, “We're very proud of what we do. It's not just my efforts; it's a team effort. Without our factories being on our side, helping us through the tough times, we wouldn't be here.”
