Kent-based Blackburns Metals has repatriated production of its unique TruGuard anti climb system for the perimeter security market. Historically, the product was manufactured under another brand with raw materials sourced in China and final processing by Blackburns Metals at its Edenbridge factory.
However, in these increasingly carbon conscious times, General Manager, Gary Henton decided to give the green light to a change in the supply chain.
Henton said “All our business activities leave a carbon footprint - the measure of CO2 emissions that we produce, and as a market leading company, we must face up to the challenge that this presents”.
As the product is sold predominantly within the UK, by both sourcing and manufacturing locally within the product’s home market, Blackburns is able to reduce the carbon footprint of the product. With sustainability of increasing importance to a well informed customer base, the change was a relatively easy decision, particularly when the company also realised the benefits of an improved service. While the product was not new to the Edenbridge factory, the company is proud of its new ‘Made in Britain’ status.
