The Employer Forum is a network of businesses in the region helping local students develop key skills in preparation for their working futures.
The Employer Forum aims to provide support to students in Years 7 to 13 from Richmond School and Sixth Form College, Northallerton School and Sixth Form College and Stokesley School and Sixth Form College, by providing knowledge, experience and expertise in career pathway guidance and in understanding the skills and experience required for futures beyond school and college.
Starting with a virtual meeting, the Employer Forum will meet once per term and is looking for local businesses and professionals to join the team. Interested businesses can register here.
Ruth Hamer, Careers Advisor at the Areté Learning Trust said: “We are looking for businesses to share knowledge of their industries, their personal career journeys and their professional expertise to prepare our students for future success beyond school. We will be looking to build on our programme of assembly talks, work experience, mock interviews and work placements, ensuring that our students are supported and prepared.”
She continued: “We appreciate that businesses are busy, however any support is appreciated! Whether that is attending every Employer Forum meeting to help set direction, or attending on an ad hoc basis to share ideas and receive an update on our careers activities, You may be able to provide a work placement or be a guest speaker in an assembly or group talk; we would be delighted to work with local professionals in all industries to help set up our students for a successful and meaningful working life.”
Bob Gaskell, Services Director at CU Phosco Lighting, a business based in Richmond, has been working with the Trust to support the development of the Employers Forum and is currently assigned to Richmond School as their Enterprise Adviser. Bob said: “As business leaders, it is our responsibility to inspire and support the workers of the future. The Employers Forum will give students real-life experience of work as well as support and guidance in choosing the best career pathway.”
