Help shape the UK’s Trade Strategy: Share your input

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is inviting businesses, organisations, and individuals to contribute views and insights to help shape the UK’s upcoming Trade Strategy. This is a unique opportunity for you to ensure that your perspectives are heard and reflected in the government’s approach to achieving long-term sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth through international trade.

What is the Trade Strategy?

DBT’s Trade Strategy, expected to be published in early 2025, aims to outline how the UK can leverage international trade to drive economic growth in a way that is both sustainable and inclusive. The Strategy will focus on key areas such as:

 • Facilitating trade for businesses: Providing practical tools and support to enable companies to grow through trade, both now and in the future.

 • Building international partnerships: Establishing the right trade mechanisms to promote growth globally.

 • Strengthening the UK’s global position: Defining how the UK should operate in the international context to support and protect businesses.

How to submit your views

A Broader Context

This Trade Strategy is part of the government’s broader economic vision. Since coming into office, the Labour government has prioritised aligning its Industrial Strategy with its Trade Strategy to create a cohesive and pro-business environment. This approach was underscored by the launch of the Industrial Strategy Green Paper in October, which promises to build on the UK’s strengths to foster growth and innovation.  DBT will also be developing a Small Business Strategy in 2025.

By participating in this engagement process, you can ensure your voices are part of a national conversation that will shape the future of UK trade policy.
