PROCUREMENT professionals want to buy more British goods but fail to implement buy-British policies at their companies, according to Made in Britain’s annual survey of the UK’s professional buyers.
Only three per cent of UK businesses have a ‘buy British’ policy in place, despite 73 per cent of those procurement specialists saying they want the businesses they work for to buy more British-made products. More than half of the 1,000 buyers surveyed last summer said they thought their company should consider implementing a buy-British policy.
Commenting on the survey’s findings, Made in Britain CEO John Pearce, said, “That’s an alarmingly low number. It’s certainly lower than I imagined but it does tell us something really important about how much procurement is available. The published figure for government procurement is in the region of £260 billion. We have a structure in place at Made in Britain for accessing this opportunity.”
