Members' tributes to Her Majesty the Queen

HER Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest beside her husband at Windsor Castle yesterday (19 September) following her state funeral at Westminster Abbey. This followed a ten-day period of mourning during part of which the Queen lay in state at Westminster Hall and hundreds of thousands of people queued to pay their last respects.

John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain (left), said, “I never met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in person, but, like many millions of others, I have for some time believed we do share a lot in common. I enjoy my responsibility as chief executive of Made in Britain, and that’s a lot to do with my love of service. And I’m extremely proud to stand up and do my best to communicate the many extraordinary achievements of members of Made in Britain to anyone that cares to listen and wants to understand more about manufacturing and its role in society.”

When the death of the Queen was announced last week, Made in Britain invited its members to share their fondest memories of her and we have collected the first contributions below. We will add others as we receive them.

David Osborne (left), CEO of shower manufacturer Roman, met the Queen in 2017. “It was an honour to meet Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace when we received our first Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2017,” said Mr Osborne. “In a crowded reception at the Palace, the Queen emerged next to us and we were the first people she mingled with. She was asking us about what we did and where we export to, when my colleague dropped in a sentence of French, and the Queen then answered us in perfect French and continued an engaging, light-hearted conversation in French. Not at all what we were expecting, but it made the moment even more memorable. A truly remarkable monarch and I am sure there are many thousands of similar special private stories in addition to the public persona.”

Tony Grimshaw OBE, director of What More UK Ltd described how he (photo left) and What More owner Andrew Holt (photo right) felt when they met the Queen in 2014. “Two very proud men at Buckingham Palace in 2014. She gave her life of selfless service to our family of nations and to the world. How she will be missed. Your Majesty, your duty is almost done. Rest in peace. God save our King Charles III.”

Members who would like to add their own personal memories of the Queen can email their stories to info@madeinbritain.org.
