“There’s a lot of pride in the factory and the products that are made daily.”

Alex Simmons, Head of Product at Home Decor, highlights the pride and purpose behind British-made furniture. Based in Sheffield, Home Decor produces around 250,000 sliding wardrobes annually, completing approximately 20,000 home installations. Their factory, deeply rooted in the city’s steelmaking heritage, transforms locally rolled steel into bespoke wardrobe designs.

Simmons emphasises the value of manufacturing in the UK. “Steelmaking is in our blood,” he says, noting that the company proudly features the Made in Britain trademark on all product packaging. The branding is a key part of their identity and a signal to consumers that quality furniture is being made domestically.

Innovation is central to the company’s growth. Recent factory investments have allowed the business to diversify into hinged wardrobes, catering to homes where sliding designs don’t fit. Home Decor’s range now includes various finishes, from oak and walnut, to mirrored and glass panels.

Simmons, who always had a passion for making things, says working in British manufacturing is both challenging and rewarding. “It takes determination,” he advises those considering a similar path. With a team of long-serving staff and a workplace culture that feels like a family, Simmons believes the pride in creating something tangible — and seeing it in people’s homes — is unmatched.
