Bespoke RF cage design enables magnet to be craned in without issue

Envirotect have been working on behalf of M&O Building Contractors to install an RF Cage to house a Siemens Healthineers Magnetom Altea 1.5T MRI system at Lymington New Forest Hospital.

The Magnetom Altea was purchased by Southern Health and NHS Foundation Trust after the previous one was decommissioned due to its age.

The new system and facilities will provide an improved service for patients in the local community and beyond.

Envirotect was informed of the magnet entry point during the design stage, which enabled the company to manufacture the RF cage framework with a removable panel in the ceiling.

The installation team was on site to remove the panel as the lorry arrived to deliver the scanner.   The crane operator manoeuvred the main magnet skyward before carefully lowering it through the opening of the fully refurbished MRI suite.

Once the scanner had been moved into position the Envirotect team completed the final stage of the RF cage installation close up.

Envirotect can supply lead-lined plasterboard or plywood, door sets, x-ray screens, observation windows, cabinets, lead glass, lead vinyl and RF cages with associated services including RF tests and RF door maintenance.

The site was officially opened by John Illsley of the rock band Dire Straits.
