Eco-powered production: How JCS is redefining manufacturing with solar energy

In September 2022, we embarked on an ambitious project to harness solar energy directly at our site in Sudbury. Our new 700KW solar park and a 500kWh Virtue Battery Energy Storage system (BESS) marks a monumental step in our sustainable practices. This setup generates clean energy sufficient to run our operations and allows us to contribute surplus electricity back to the grid.

WHY SOLAR? WHY NOW?
Our ethos of being self sufficient drove the decision to invest in solar technology. With energy prices fluctuating and the world moving towards more eco-friendly solutions, owning our solar power resources allows us to maintain stability in manufacturing costs and product pricing. It’s not just an environmental choice; it’s smart business.

REAL IMPACT, REAL NUMBERS
Since activating the solar park, the impact on our energy consumption has been profound. Despite the less than stellar summer so far this year we have met 55% of our production demand from our own Solar. We have also exported 110MWh of power back to the grid.

SUPPORTING OUR TEAM AND ENVIRONMENT
We’ve installed eight EV charge points to support our team’s shift towards electric vehicles. This initiative complements our environmental goals by facilitating a sustainable commute for our employees, further reducing our collective carbon footprint.

LOOKING AHEAD…
Our solar journey is just beginning. We are committed to leading by example in the manufacturing sector with plans to expand our solar capacity and continuously improve our energy efficiency. By investing in sustainable technologies, we’re not only preparing for a future less dependent on fossil fuels but also ensuring the longevity and resilience of our business.
