If you are looking to invest in a new field shelter for your horse that is strong, durable and meets his needs, but won’t break the bank, who better to turn to than one of the UK’s household names in stable design and manufacture? Whether your principal goal is to provide warmth and dryness for your horse in the winter, shade in the summer while your horse spends as much time as he wishes out in the field, or to just provide an easy access area for feeding and storing hay, there is a shelter solution for you.
If you want the shelter specifically for winter, the ideal time to place your order is August/September to allow for the standard 8–10-week lead time. Autumn’s unpredictable weather can make installation/access to fields a little more challenging. Ordering late summer will ensure the field shelter is fully functional in time for winter.
During our 40 years in the business, we have worked with hundreds of stables, private owners, charities, and associations to design and manufacture the best in stables and bespoke timber buildings. Don’t just take our word for it...
‘National Timber Buildings have worked with Bransby Horses for over five years and during that time they have built more than 50 mobile field shelters on our sites. The company describes themselves as “a team passionate about building the best, about design, and about helping clients. These are our core values, ensuring we run our business in a way that benefits each and every person we work with”. National Timber Buildings have not only lived up to their reputation but have exceeded it with their selfless attitude and accommodating nature.
The guys are great. They always fit us into their busy schedule at short notice and, when on site, they work hard to get the job done.’ Mark Fillingham, Estates Manager, Bransby Horses
Field shelters can be a simple construction, but they must be stable and strong enough to withstand the elements, including extraordinarily fierce winds. Once installed, they need to be well looked after and mucked out regularly.
Fixed or mobile field shelter?
Field shelters may be fixed in one location, or they can be mobile. An advantage of mobile field shelters is that they can be moved around according to weather conditions, drainage, and to allow grass to recover.

Horse field shelter features
Our fixed and mobile field shelters are loved by both horses and owners! We offer a range of top-quality features that will ensure comfort, strength, durability, and longevity.
Our standout field shelter features include:
- 4×2” roof purlins in prefabricated steel joist hangers – additional roof strength, plus increased wind, and snow loading.
- Roof lining (can be added for an extra cost) – warmer in winter and cooler in summer, a roof lining offers a more comfortable environment for your horses. It also offers an increased Onduline roofing life expectancy and prevents sagging.
- Tanalised® timber– our treated timber protects your shelter against insect attacks and fungal decay. Minimum grade C16 timber is used for framing and rafters.
- Heavy-duty, galvanised steel skis – these keep the building above ground level and have 6mm fully-welded restraint cleats for a secure attachment to the ski. Our skis allow the shelter to be towed from either end (for mobile field shelters).
- Kickboards to 4’. Front guttering as standard.
HORSE FIELD SHELTER PRICES INCLUDE INSTALLATION
