Manufacturing and Engineering Magazine (MEM) has featured an article by our CEO, John Pearce, about the Made in Britain Buying British Survey 2023, which focuses on how British businesses are supporting employees through the cost of living crisis.
"Amid a deep and sustained cost of living crisis in the UK, the number of British households struggling with heavy debt has increased by two-thirds since 2017, according to an analysis published this month by the charity Debt Justice, while our manufacturing organisation Made in Britain’s own research reveals the extraordinary measures taken by businesses to help their employees get by," Pearce writes.
Almost half of British businesses (46%) have introduced measures to support employees struggling with the cost of living crisis, according to the Made in Britain Buying British Survey 2023, which polled 2,000 UK consumers and 1,000 decision-makers at UK businesses.
Camilla Hadcock, Made in Britain board member and director of Lancashire-based Roach Bridge Tissues, said: "The time is now to value people more than the bottom line - despite the stresses we are facing as businesses in this very challenging economic environment, our people have to come first."
