Instinct Hardware have been nominated for the Ethos Award at the AI Specification Awards.
This award is a new category for 2024, celebrating ironmongery which showcases the skill of the ironmonger even when the build itself could be considered challenging. Launched by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the awards celebrate UK and global excellence.
The bespoke build saw Instinct Hardware working with Architectural Ironmongers AC Leigh to recreate the iconic Red Bull logo, featuring the same bold colours. The feature handle was designed to form part of the firm’s London HQ, nestling on the door to the bar area.
Nil Chohan, Operations Director at Instinct Hardware says “There were a few challenges when we created this piece, from how the handles would tally up to the precise cutting needed to create the bull itself from solid stainless steel. We have invested in machinery and design software that allowed us to perform testing before we’d even picked up the steel.
Our waterjet cutting machine was the perfect tool for the cutting as using the cold-cutting technology means the material is not compromised in any way…and you get a really clean edge to the cut.”
The awards take place on 18th April 2024 at the iconic Southwark Cathedral in London. For more information on the awards visit www.gai.org.uk. To find out more about the Red Bull handle, visit www.instincthardware.co.uk/case-studies.
