A new range of sustainable materials has been launched to help the rail, leisure and maritime industries reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and create thermal insulation solutions.
Developed and produced by Interflex, the versatile and sustainable Ocean brand of materials can be used to manufacture acoustic products designed to do the following:
· Reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) in railway carriages and to enhance sound absorption in electric and diesel power units.
· Reduce sound and provide enhanced thermal insulation to create a warmer, quieter and more energy-efficient experience for leisure vehicle owners.
· Improve acoustic absorption and provide an enhanced thermal barrier within interior walls and engine bays.
Already approved for use at a major OEM, Ocean is lightweight, mouldable and made from 100% polyester, 80% of which is recycled materials (1kg being equivalent to 80 recycled plastic water bottles). It can also be recycled at the end of its life, making it a sustainable solution for the rail industry.
Ocean can be used for a variety of interior and exterior applications where noise levels are an issue and high-quality sound and thermal insulation is required.
Best known for producing NVH parts and sealing solutions for automotive manufacturers, Interflex is now focusing on introducing sustainable materials into diverse industries, including the rail sector.
“We are excited to be launching this innovative new product, which has already attracted significant interest from large manufacturers,” comments Jim Griffin, MD of Interflex. “Not only is it a high-performance acoustic absorbent material, its lightweight properties also make it ideal for manufacturers looking to reduce weight. At Interflex our focus is very much on sustainable innovation, so we are excited about expanding our offering from the automotive industry to other sectors such as maritime, leisure and rail.”
Interflex currently manufactures a range of NVH and sealing solutions for vehicles. Set up in 2003, the company employs over 40 staff at its 38,000 sq. ft. site.
