At john beavan we were commissioned to create a unique side table for a client with a love for native trees and pond fish.
Aiming for a light and elegant design, using finely turned columns with brown oak detailing, paired with natural oak and burr oak veneer for the top and base, creating a striking contrast of native timbers.
Initially, opting out from a marquetry koi carp for a fused glass panel featuring a vibrant koi carp to giving a striking contrast with the timber.
Our client was thrilled with the design, allowing us to move forward with the project. We provided a detailed brief to the glass company, specifying a colourful koi with wavy glass to mimic water, while we began crafting the table.
Following the sketch, a full-size drawing guided our workshop process, meticulously moulding timbers, veneering, and hand-turning columns, capitals and delicate feet, assembling and finishing the table with natural oil and clear wax, emphasising the grain in the timbers.
The completed table is now a stunning centrepiece in our client’s home.
