LK Metrology announces that it has acquired Nikon Metrology’s laser scanning and Focus point cloud inspection software business.
For more than 25 years, Nikon’s pioneering and class-leading 3D laser scanners, whether mounted on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) for automated inspection or operated manually using an articulated measuring arm, have enabled rapid digitisation of parts by optically capturing millions of high-precision points. They reduce inspection time and offer greater insight for applications such as dimensional metrology using Focus Inspection point cloud analysis software and reverse engineering.
Established in England in 1963, LK Metrology has an impressive heritage in metrology dating back to the birth of CMM technology. The company is credited with many of the CMM industry’s pioneering developments. In 2018, LK Metrology was relaunched as an independent CMM manufacturer after several years as a division of Nikon Metrology. The company’s products, including CMMs, portable measuring arms and metrology software, are used worldwide to control and improve the quality of manufactured components. Headquartered in the UK, it has sales and support offices in North America, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and China, supplemented by a worldwide distributor network.
Since relaunching, LK Metrology and Nikon Metrology have closely collaborated to offer total solutions for non-contact inspection. As such, the Nikon laser scanners and Focus software are a natural extension of LK Metrology’s product offering. As part of the acquisition, all Nikon Metrology laser scanning R&D, service and production resources will be transferred to LK Metrology to support existing customers, and to further develop the laser scanning portfolio and related software to provide new and innovative metrology solutions.
Both companies will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition for customers and resellers.
