Made in Britain flushed with pride at Liberal Democrat Party conference

Made in Britain proudly exhibited at this year’s Liberal Democrat Party conference in Bournemouth, where the trade body liaised with key members of the political party, including leader Sir Ed Davey.

The Liberal Democrat conference, held at the Bournemouth International Centre between September 20th-23rd, brought together the party’s 72 Members of Parliament, delegates from across the country and trade exhibitors including Made in Britain for the annual gathering of the United Kingdom’s third-most represented political party in the British government.

Made in Britain had a trade stand at the conference and welcomed members to discuss ongoing developments in British manufacturing, the role Made in Britain’s trademark is playing and spotlight the tireless work of our 2,200 members.

We also discussed the role Made in Britain can play in the future and how politicians can support our goal of making Britain a manufacturing powerhouse on the global stage.

During Made in Britain’s time at the conference, Liberal Democrat MPs and delegates were shown the innovative Quantum Pushbutton Syphon made by one of our members, Thomas Dudley, which gained recognition earlier this year when the business sent one into space to highlight the outside-the-box thinking a product like this required.

Many Members of Parliament guessed what this item might be, with answers varying from a cookie cutter to a camera, a shampoo dispenser to a satellite.

However, the party’s leader Sir Ed Davey had no such incorrect guesses, as he immediately identified the product as a toilet cistern.

Such is the understated but crucial role Thomas Dudley plays in our day-to-day lives, one of their manhole covers was spotted just metres away from the entrance to the conference hall!

John Pearce, CEO at Made in Britain, said: “Attending the Liberal Democrat Party conference has been a wonderful experience for us and a great opportunity for the Made in Britain message to be heard by major members of the British parliament. Engagement with MPs has been fantastic and it was especially positive for us to display the brilliant work of one of our members, Thomas Dudley, and the strides they have made since utilising the official Made in Britain trademark.

“We will never stop banging the drum for our members and for the wider Made in Britain network, connecting top-class British manufacturers with key stakeholders across the United Kingdom, and ensuring our mission statement is heard loud and clear across all corners of our nation’s democracy.”

Made in Britain’s attendance at the Liberal Democrat Party conference was part of our national tour of UK events, spreading the word of British manufacturing excellence across the country.

It followed attendance at the UK Metals Expo earlier in September, and precedes appearances at both the Labour and Conservative Party conferences respectively, where Made in Britain is also lobbying with key political stakeholders to showcase the impact of the official trademark, as well as the significant work being done by our 2,200+ members.

Our national tour for 2025 ends a bit closer to home, culminating in the Made in Britain Impact Awards ceremony on November 5th, where we will celebrate the accomplishments of our members across the last 12 months, and recognise the crucial role they play in the British manufacturing ecosystem.
