Made in Britain hosts ‘Net-zero in giftware’ panel at Autumn Fair

‘Net-zero in giftware – exploring the future’ – a Made in Britain panel event with speakers from Made in Britain members Cesca, Essence of Hartland and Lazy Pheasant.

MADE in Britain is organising a sustainability panel debate at this year's Autumn Fair on 5 September at the Birmingham NEC. The trade association brings together close to 2,000 British manufacturers, across dozens of sectors, and provides support for them to do business more sustainably.

Autumn Fair is the UK’s industry-leading marketplace for wholesale home, gift and fashion. With more than 600 exhibitors showcasing their collections each year, the annual four-day event showcases a huge variety of products in time for the Golden Quarter – retail's busiest time of year in the lead-up to Christmas. This year’s event is being held from 4-7 September.

The panel, entitled ‘Net-zero in giftware – exploring the future', will be moderated by Made in Britain CEO John Pearce, with speakers drawn from the Made in Britain community of member companies:

Susanne Langley, co-founder, owner and Joint MD, Cesca.

Susanne Langley (left) is co-founder, owner and Joint MD of www.cesca.co.uk, a brand that specialises in sustainable and vegan, UK-made gifts. Cesca is B2C, but is a sister company to Juniper, which is an established B2B trade supplier of corporate branded promotional merchandise. With 20 years' experience in producing quality products, Susanne pivoted the company’s focus away from real leather and imitation plastic leathers, towards sustainable recycled materials, whilst reshoring production to the UK.

“Cesca” as a brand derives its name from Susanne’s and co-founder Andrew’s daughter, Francesca.

And its main products are sustainable notebooks, desk accessories, travel accessories and other lifestyle gifts. Cesca offers full personalisation if required.
  
The factory in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire is ISO14001 accredited and uses 100 per cent renewable electricity, and each year supports www.treeaid.org a charity that works to create a sustainable future for poverty-stricken areas in Africa, whilst also working to tackle climate change and forms part of the www.greatgreenwall.org project.

Alanna Dale, founder and owner, Lazy Pheasant.

Alanna (left)  is the founder and owner of Lazy Pheasant, a luxury homeware and lifestyle brand launched in 2018. Having started out studying geology and with a career in environmental management, her path changed with the arrival of a young family.

She followed her passion for sewing and design and started her own company - bringing the traditional into the 21st century using sustainable wool fabrics and creating funky designs.

Alanna says, "Lazy Pheasant is country at heart with an urban edge. Our most iconic and best-selling product is our Rugby Ball Cushion, lovingly designed and created by Lazy Pheasant."

Joseph Brady, creator and owner, Essence of Hartland.

Based on the rugged North Devon coast, Essence of Hartland is a home fragrance business made with essential oils sourced from local suppliers.

Joe (left) says, "Our product ranges are carefully crafted and tells a story; from the ingredients, to the collection name, and how it is packaged. We are passionate and considerate of the unique biodiversity of the Hartland Peninsula. All packaging and ingredients are sourced from local businesses and where possible recyclable and plastics are kept to a minimum.

John (left) has led Made in Britain’s growth since 2015, transforming it into an influential trade body of close to 2,000 members today. Under his leadership, the Made in Britain mark has become a renowned symbol of British provenance and high standards, with member companies using it on their products to help them sell more at home and abroad. He is committed to raising awareness of the strengths of British manufacturing both in the wider business community and with the public, and to ensuring that the sector’s challenges are addressed at government level. Prior to this role, John was one of the leads of the UK government’s GREAT Britain global marketing campaign.
