The National Living and Minimum Wage increases on 1 April 2024 for around 3 million workers in the UK, including apprentices. From 1 April 2024, workers aged 21 and over will be entitled to the National Living Wage. Employers and workers must understand what this rate increase means for them.
Anyone who is an employee must get at least the National Living Wage or National Minimum Wage they are entitled to receive:
- The National Living Wage will increase by 9.8% to £11.44 per hour for those aged 21 and over. Previously, the National Living Wage was available for those aged 23 and over.
- The National Minimum Wage will be £8.60 per hour for those aged 18-20 and £6.40 for those aged under 18.
- The apprentice rate for apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship will be £6.40.
- The Department for Business and Trade, working with other government departments and external stakeholders including Made in Britain, is running an awareness campaign to increase awareness of the rate changes and what they mean for both employers and workers.
