Made in Britain’s launch of its new Environmental & Social Value (ESV) Certification has created a wave of recognition in the national trade media, with leading titles including Builders Merchant Journal, Manufacturing Management, The Manufacturer, BuildNews.co.uk, Plant & Works Engineering, Manufacturing & Product Engineering and Factory & Handling Solutions all covering the story.
This broad coverage shows that the issues Made in Britain members care about, sustainability, resilience and social value, are now setting the agenda across the manufacturing and construction industries.
Helping members “stand out and win new orders”
The ESV Certification has been designed to give UK manufacturers, particularly SMEs, a credible and practical way to demonstrate the positive impact they already make.
Aligned with the UK Government’s Social Value Model (2025) and the Procurement Act 2023, the certification gives businesses a competitive edge in tenders and supply chains.John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, said:
“The ESV Certification offers members a practical, quick and inexpensive way to showcase their social value via a rapid and straightforward assessment. It recognises what companies are doing as part of their day-to-day business operations, without burdening them with having to do and spend more."
Early success stories from members
Several Made in Britain members have already completed the process, including WDS Components Ltd and Roman Ltd, who both praised the certification for being simple, effective and confidence-building when talking to buyers.Mark Moody, Sales & Marketing Director at WDS Components, said:
“As a small manufacturer, we really appreciated how straightforward the process was. It helped us reflect on what we’re already doing around Environmental & Social Value and gave us a new way to demonstrate that to customers and buyers.”
Strong endorsement from the government
The Certification has also gained the support of senior government voices. Shirley Cooper OBE, Small Business Crown Representative, commented:
“UK SMEs are the backbone of our economy - driving sustainable growth, creating jobs and strengthening communities across the country. I am pleased to support accessible and credible initiatives that help SMEs stand out, win new orders and get more recognition for their commitment and contribution to the environment and society.”
Why this matters for members
With so many respected trade publications shining a light on this initiative, the message is clear: Made in Britain members are leading the way in demonstrating Environmental & Social Value.
This is more than media recognition - it’s a signal to buyers and stakeholders that British manufacturers are ready to deliver growth responsibly and competitively.
