Sieving process for lead oxide powder

Global Battery Manufacturer Reduces Cleaning Frequency by 80%

A leading global battery manufacturer producing lead-acid batteries for both the automotive aftermarket and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has significantly improved its production efficiency by upgrading its sieving process.

In the battery manufacturing process, lead oxide is used as the active material for creating lead-acid battery plates. This material is transferred from a storage tank into a sieving system, where a crucial check screening step removes foreign particles before mixing.

Previously, the manufacturer relied on a basic sieving system that did not have a proper seal, resulting in the release of lead oxide dust throughout the production area. To comply with health and safety standards, the facility had to be cleaned daily which led to a time-consuming and costly routine.

Upgraded solution with Russell Compact Sieve®

Looking for a more effective solution, the manufacturer selected Russell Finex for its proven expertise in sieving technology and the superior design of the Russell Compact Sieve®, which features a fully enclosed system with a secure seal to prevent powder leakage.

After installing the lead oxide powder sieve, the manufacturer began processing up to two tonnes of lead oxide powder per hour. The results were immediate:

  • Cleaning frequency reduced from daily to once per week
  • 10 hours of cleaning and 3 hours of maintenance saved monthly
  • Improved health and safety conditions in the production area

This upgrade has not only optimized operational efficiency but also contributed to a safer, cleaner working environment.
