Terry Lifts Helps Love Your Garden Transform Cheshire Garden

British lift manufacturer, Terry Lifts is extremely proud to support the ITV Love Your Garden team once again, this time helping transform the garden of care worker, Carl Lamptey and his family.

Carl lives in Macclesfield with his wife, Elle and their three children.  He is a full-time carer for children with Down syndrome and epilepsy at the David Lewis Centre.  Carl is also an active fundraiser for the hospice that supported him and his first wife, Sarah who he sadly lost to cancer, as well as raising money and support for the children’s centre where he works.

Challenging Garden
Prior to the transformation the 80.6m2 garden was accessed by several steps from a raised patio and largely laid to lawn, with an abandoned summer house.

Elle has recently been diagnosed with a spinal disability and can no longer walk properly and the fact that one of the children has ADHD, the family now struggle to travel far.  A new, accessible garden would ‘bring magic back into their home’, and ‘help them relax, improve mental wellbeing and bring a sense of normality back to their lives’.

With Elle’s recent diagnosis, she had difficulty entering the garden.  The Love Your Garden team called on the help of Knutsford-based, Terry Lifts to provide a solution.

The Solution – Melody 3 Lift
On the advice of the lift specialist, Love Your Garden selected the Melody 3 vertical platform lift in anthracite black with transparent infilled sides and auto-locking manual gates.

Travelling a maximum of three metres the lift can accommodate virtually any manual or powered wheelchair, and a carer.  The lift gives Elle independent access to the garden, where she can immerse herself in the scent and texture of the plants and enjoy the space with her family.

The Lift Installation
Terry Lifts installed the lift over three days, including associated preparatory work.  Due to the unusual timescale the installation team had to devise an alternative fixing method installing pre-cast concrete blocks to the upper level rather than poured concrete.  This provided the necessary structural integrity to ensure a solid fix for the load imposed by the lift.

Speaking of the experience, sales manager for Terry Lifts, Steve Hill said:
“We are very pleased to support the Love Your Garden team once more.  I was lucky to be onsite during the installation, with my colleague, Steve Bell and we agreed that it was an experience we won’t forget.  We met some great characters, working alongside the landscape team and other suppliers, as well as the presenting team, of course!

“It is always a privilege to help families like the Lampteys and we wish them many happy hours in their new garden.”
Alan Titchmarsh and the Love Your Garden team travel around the UK transforming ordinary gardens into inspirational outdoor spaces for some of the country’s most deserving families and individuals.

Carl was nominated by Jon, whom he got to know more when they were both working in hospitals in Australia.
