Traveling with Children, A Parents Guide

We all know the weeks of prep it takes getting your family ready to go on holiday, insect repellent, factor 50 sun lotion, multiple hats because 2 will get lost! clothes for day and night and “just in case clothes”!!!!!!!. Favourite teddy, Pepper pig and Paw Patrol saved on multiple electronic devises. Pop up tents and wipes I have never used so many!! Ice cream hands, ketchup hands, suncream and sand amalgamation hands. The joys !!! totally worth it for those smiling faces though.

As we are launching a new range of travel pillows for children, we thought it might be helpful to provide some interesting summer holiday hacks.

· If you are using a travel pillow to encourage sleep and routine during your trip leave the travel pillow in their bed a week before you go. The smell of your home and their bed will bring comfort. Smell triggers memory so even if the location has changed and the routine is different the smell of home and bed will help with settling to sleep.

· Talc (Baby Powder) when we have to leave the beach, mostly under protest because the hole we have just dug is the best one ever!!! The children have sand stuck to their feet and rubbing it only makes their feet sore and red. Apply talc and the sand will fall off, no sore feet. No more tears! (Well just leaving the beach related ones)

· Providing your children are not allergic to insect repellent a light spray before bed provides defences against pesky mosquitos. As a parent saying “don’t scratch doesn’t carry much weight!

· Leave your after sun in the fridge, after sun gel works especially well keeping your skin cooler for longer.

· On the whole most children don’t keep still mine certainly never did. A cold flannel on the back of the neck will cool your child very quickly.

· Personalized “Spot It” game, plan your journey and the things you are likely to see. Road signs (specific to your journey, a Pilot, the Sea, a Boat a Seagull, a Church a Palm tree. I have personally found this really helped pass the time and the children have remembered it to this day. (They are teenagers now)

· The Drink alarm, when children are playing, they hate being told come into the shade have some water. I made this into a game who hears the timer and drinks their drink first. It gives them a sense of responsibility. Most gold stars at the end of the week got to choose where we went for dinner on the last night. (Stopped me looking like the nagging parent if only for a short while.)

We hope your children’s Travel MyPillow will be part of your wonderful holiday memories.

On behalf of all the team at MyPillow UK we wish you and your family a very Happy Holiday.
