Made in Britain is often asked by its members about the UK’s trade agreements and where to find the latest information on which countries the UK has agreements with.
What is a trade agreement?
The UK government defines this as: “the rules for buying and selling goods and services between 2 or more countries. They reduce restrictions on imports and exports, which can make trading easier and cheaper when they are used.”
Current trade agreements in force
The UK currently has 70+ active trade agreements. Recent trade agreements that have come into force include:
- UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement
- UK-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement
- Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
- Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein Free Trade Agreement
The UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement treaty covers all UK trade with the EU.
