UK Universities Procurement Consortia: Opportunities and Supply Chain Guidance

Join us for our upcoming online session on opportunities to supply universities through the UK Universities Procurement Consortia (UKUPC). UKUPC is a partnership between eight UK consortia to support collaborative procurement within Higher and Further Education.

As part of our commitment to supporting UK manufacturers, Made in Britain is collaborating with UKUPC for this event to provide companies with the tools and knowledge to explore new commercial opportunities within the Higher Education sector. We will also be joined by a representative from a UKUPC member university to share their purchasing requirements.

In the UK, the combined spend on goods, works and services of Higher Education Institutions is over £10 billion per year, with UKUPC members spending around £2 billion through its framework agreements. This presents a significant opportunity for Made in Britian members across a range of sectors.

This session will provide practical insights into UKUPC members’ needs, the opportunities available for SMEs, and how UK manufacturers can best position themselves to supply universities and Higher Education institutions nationwide.

  • Introduction to UKUPC and its members
  • Purchasing needs and relevant product categories
  • The procurement process and how to navigate the system
  • The current pipeline and upcoming opportunities

Sarah Dye | Head of Strategic Procurement | NWUPC

Sarah Dye is the Head of Strategic Procurement at NWUPC. Sarah manages the NWUPC Procurement function, leading the category team, and has experience as a procurement lead across a variety of categories, delivering and managing framework agreements in pursuit of value for NWUPC’s diverse membership.  Sarah is the Chair of the UKUPC Responsible Procurement Network, a collaboration between the University Purchasing Consortia to embed sustainability and social value in our tenders, category, and supplier management; and has a particular interest in breaking down barriers for MSMEs in public sector tendering and improving supply chain diversity. Sarah is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and undertaking a LLM in public procurement at the University of Nottingham.

George Middleton | Advisor to Made in Britain and Director | MAP UK & International

George Middleton is an international trade and supply chains specialist.  He has extensive professional experience in public, private and not-for-profit sectors, in the UK and internationally. He is the Director of MAP UK & International and an Advisor to Made in Britain.  Since 2019, George has engaged privately with companies and governments across a range of sectors. Current appointments also include long-term roles with a UK plc and an executive agency of the UK government. George lived and worked overseas between 2011 and 2018, for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and then Department for International Trade.  Before that, he managed Community Relations and Regeneration projects, for the London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority (2008-11) and Tribal Group plc [later Capita] (2005-08).
