Upscaling at Gaffey proves good timing, explains MD Phil

As Gaffey sees upscaling success, Managing Director and business owner Phil Gaffey discusses business growth, future investment plans and managing your own morale...

Our ongoing business focus and priority is continuing to invest in infrastructure, stock, production processes and product development as we move into the year ahead. 2023 is important to us and our network of distributors and trade partners looking to boost their business and sales growth. Our aim is to support these ambitions and targets with assured product availability, competitive offers, new products and market leading delivery times.

Expanding business operations is always a daunting task but a necessary one to ensure expectations can be achieved. Yet time again, it often proves to be more successful than initially predicted.

Improved component stock, controlled BOM picking group, KanBan for manufacturing, new sub-assembly areas, multiple production lines, iPads for each activity area for full digital control from serial number creation to final QC of tested product prior to dispatch – all encompassed and managed under ISO9001:2015

Our successful upscaling wouldn’t be possible without the people behind our business. We have a strong team of dedicated staff, and this promotes us to remain committed to our clients whilst continuing to adapt, diversify and innovate.

Although we’re currently seeing business growth from well-timed upscaling, as MD and business owner, I’ve had to learn how to create and manage my own morale…

Brexit, the UK government and much of media have been nothing short of an embarrassment to SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises), who now must work even harder to protect and sustain business relationships with overseas clients, in particular our EU counterparts.

Help provided by some of our logistics suppliers such as Dachser, Interspan and organisations like our local chambers of commerce have helped us navigate through an exceptionally steep learning curve post-Brexit, and their help has been invaluable.

As MD, I also like to take time to appreciate the good from every success without dwelling on failures too much. Instead, I recognise these as opportunities to improve and enjoy some benefit and reward next time around!

Without the external support from local organisation and the ongoing commitment of our strong resilient team of staff, we wouldn’t be approaching our 37th year in – and for that, I’m truly grateful to everyone who is continuing to helping us achieve “Water Treatment for Life”.
