Hunter & Hyland are primarily a supplier to curtain makers and interior designers in the UK. We have a few export markets around Europe that are quite successful for a number of clients, plus lots of designers in the UK who install our products around the world- from the USA, to the middle East and back to Europe.
In the past, we spent some time developing a distribution channel in the USA as it is a market that we have always enjoyed moderate success in reactively. However, we have found that over the last few years, it has been more successful to talk to individual designers and makers and develop our own relationships. The Made in Britain mark has been very useful in developing these contacts. we have found that it provides clarity about where we make things, and adds a reflection of the quality of our product range.
We have a lot of niche products that are not available elsewhere, and for these products, lots of designers are happy to cover the import and shipping costs to be able to have a truly bespoke product that has been lovingly handcrafted in England.
We find our export orders are generally for more bespoke items, and with a larger order value- often for a whole house or hotel- so they are very good opportunities for us as a business.
We will continue to work to develop our contacts in the USA to continue to export beautiful, bespoke curtain poles.
