Van Guard look to future-proof manufacturing with renewed investment in robotics

Made in Britain member Van Guard are always investigating the latest in manufacturing technology and how it can take productivity to the next level. Following a £750k investment in a Bystronic 3KW Fiber Laser Cutting machine back in 2015, the team are pleased to announce the latest additions to their manufacturing facility – the Bystronic Xpert 40 and Mobile Bending Robot.

Specialising in the pressing of smaller components, the Xpert 40 is Bystronic’s fastest standard press brake – 25% faster than their most current press brake. Not only will this improve efficiencies during the working hours, but the press brake compliments a laser machine with both pieces of technology running lights out. Working closely with Bystronic, a worldwide leader in high quality sheet metal processing solutions, it was clear to see the lights out benefits of acquiring their mobile automated robot, with 24-hour output needed for an ever-growing manufacturing capacity.

When capacities do fluctuate, the operating of the press brake can easily be swapped from being manned to mobile in 5-10 minutes. The ergonomic design and LED lit press brake provides a safe and comfortable station for the skilled operatives, with the robot seamlessly taking over if resource is required elsewhere in the factory.  The controlled process of the new machine means it is more energy efficient with power consumption reduced by up to 30% to other press brakes, helping us in respect of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System).
