WDS Components tells Sky News: Businesses holding their own but need greater stability to grow further

Speaking to Sky News, a member of the growing Made in Britain network has called upon the government to create a more stable environment for businesses to flourish and grow.

While praising businesses for navigating their way through the difficult trading times of recent years, be it geopolitical uncertainty or the impact of Brexit, Mark Moody, Sales and Marketing Director at machine parts specialist WDS Components, said the business landscape has already had to deal with so much in recent years - but stressed that hasn’t knocked them off their stride.

He made the comments during a recent interview with Sky News, following the Chancellor’s Spring Statement, and he proudly wore the Made in Britain badge as he discussed the difficulties of running a business in the last 5-10 years, as well as the success of WDS Components despite these trying circumstances.

Mark said: “Considering we’ve had a pandemic, we’ve had Brexit, we’ve had global supply chain issues with the Suez Canal and a few wars just to throw into the mix, not to mention the political instability, we’re doing okay. We’re holding our own with good, modest organic growth and we’re trying to stay positive.”

WDS Components was established in 1952 as the Woodside Die Sinking Company, creating jig and die parts to increase production speeds in tool rooms. It has grown exponentially since its formation to become a leading figure in both European manufacturing and global distribution of high quality products at competitive prices, boasting a range of world-renowned clients.

Based in the market town of Pudsey within the city of Leeds borough, WDS Components can ship over 98% of its stock range, from spare parts to machine components, the very same day from its global distribution centre. This commitment to high quality and also timely delivery is what has made the company stand out from its competitors for so many years.

Mark did, however, also call for greater stability moving forward to allow businesses to evolve and drive innovation into the future, rather than having to worry about the next cost increase or supply chain headache.

He said: “As we try and manage the business, if we’re mitigating some of those increases in cost and some of the pressures around us, we’re not focused on driving the business really in exciting and innovative ways.”
