Continuing our long tradition of developing the next generation of engineers. Three new apprentices joined European Springs & Pressings: Buddy Kempster, Eltayeb Ahmed, and Kyle Singh.
They have embarked on their BTEC and NVQ qualifications and will spend the first year of their apprenticeship gaining a deeper understanding of the business by undertaking a ‘round robin’ of the departments. This will also allow us to assess their potential in each area to place a specific focus for their 2nd year.
Past Apprentices - Where Are They Now?
As well as bringing in new apprentices, we are continuing to develop those who have completed the apprenticeship and are embarking on their careers. These include Alan Lowing and Sami Hamache.
Alan Lowing
Alan started his apprenticeship in September 2015. After completing his apprenticeship and gaining his BTEC and NVQ in Manufacturing Engineering, Alan was assigned to our Wire Forming department. He was given the opportunity to experience the variety of machines used and gained a deep understanding of Wire Forming. Recently Alan has been promoted to Wire Technical Engineer, giving him more responsibility and customer interaction as the Subject Matter Expert in the department.
Sam Hamache
Sami began his apprenticeship in July of 2022. Having gained his BTEC and NVQs, he was placed in our Production department as a Small Order Spring maker and Setter. Sami continues to learn his craft under the mentorship of the more senior members of the department and his skills and abilities are going from Strength to Strength as he learns and grows in his role.
Brandon Smith
Brandon started his apprenticeship in September 2018. He completed the BTEC and NVQ and went on to our Press Shop in 2019. After 2 years of excellent work as a Press Setter, he was selected to join the Toolroom in as a trainee Toolmaker and has made excellent progress. Such was his progression and desire to increase his own learning, Brandon was enrolled in an HNC program in 2023 and has already demonstrated that his learning on this course can have tangible benefits to the Company.
"It is very rewarding as a company to see our young people develop confidently into their full-time roles, and some of them are already being promoted" David Purvis - HR Director, European Springs & Pressings.
