Westcotec unveils new production unit and refurbished offices

The Norfolk-based road safety technology firm Westcotec has opened its brand new production unit and refurbished office area. A line-up of more than 40 guests, made up of customers and partners from public and private sector, attended a morning event at the firm’s Norfolk premises, with a presentation from managing director Chris Spinks and a tour of the new manufacturing facility.

The combined work represents an investment of nearly £500,000 which includes acquiring the new site and installing new software systems to streamline Westcotec’s production processes.

In his brief address to guests, Chris Spinks commented: “We are excited and proud to see the work completed, because we know it will help us deliver even better levels of customer service and technical know-how in the years to come.”

Westcotec founder Phil Hayton was guest of honour at the event. Phil transferred the company into employee ownership in 2018, ensuring a secure future for the 20-plus people who today make up the Westcotec team.

Chris paid a warm tribute to Phil. “After a long career with the police, I joined Westcotec in 2015 and Phil told me of his plan to put the company into employee ownership. I will admit I had my doubts about being able to lead such a successful commercial operation, but Phil told me I would be fine and just to get on with it,” he said.

“On behalf of the entire Westcotec team I say a heart-felt ‘thank you’ to Phil for his generosity and selflessness and I am proud to name the brand-new board room after him.”

For more than two decades Westcotec has been at the forefront of the vehicle- activated sign industry. Based in the heart of Norfolk, Chris, Olly Samways and the team are proud to have grown to become one of the biggest suppliers of quality vehicle-activated signs in the UK.

The company has experienced a surge in new markets and orders since the difficult days of the Covid-19 pandemic. A major highlight was the invitation to exhibit as part of a British export consortium at a large-scale event in Los Angeles.

“Our declared aim is to bring the technology of the future to today’s road environment, whether in the UK or across toe world. In doing so we are committed to playing our part in reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured while using the road,” concluded Chris.
