Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co. named a Innovation in Wool Awards finalist

Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co., the family-owned British manufacturer behind the Traceable Wool Mattress & Pillow Collection, has been recognised as a finalist in the 2025 Innovation in Wool Awards, placing fourth from seven shortlisted companies and more than 30 applications nationwide.

“Our goal has always been simple: better sleep for customers and better value for British farmers,” said Amanda Oldfield, Founder and Managing Director. “Being shortlisted alongside such strong innovators validates our direct-to-farm approach—agreeing a fair price before shearing, paying quickly, and giving every fleece a purpose with clip-by-clip traceability.”

The company’s entry spotlighted its fully traceable British-wool supply, lot-level processing, and QR- backed provenance on every product. It also outlined plans to strengthen lot separation and speed up farmer payments.

What sets our mattresses apart

Across all three collections—Bedstead, Natural, and Signature—Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co. uses hand-teased British wool fillings to create a uniquely supportive yet comforting feel. Hand-teasing maintains the natural loft and spring of the fibre, improving airflow and pressure relief compared to dense pads or foam layers.

Key differences vs. typical “British wool” mattresses:

  • Clip-by-clip provenance: Each farm lot is processed individually, preserved with bale IDs, and linked to a QR code on the finished product—so customers can see the origin of their mattress wool.
  • Direct-to-farm sourcing: Prices are agreed pre-shearing, shearing costs are covered, and farmers are paid within three months; through combing and blending, all breeds are utilised and valued.
  • Natural, breathable builds: Focus on airflow and moisture management; no petrochemical foams or fillers in our Signature range, which achieves chemical-free fire safety.
  • Made in Britain from British springs: UK manufacturing keeps value and skills local, with a short, transparent supply chain.

The collections at a glance

  • Bedstead Collection — Practical, no-turn comfort for bedsteads; hand-teased British wool for breathable support and everyday durability.
  • Natural Collection — Everyday luxury; hand-teased wool blended with natural fibres for moisture management and calmer, cooler sleep.
  • Signature Collection — Our pinnacle build; layers of hand-teased British wool with natural premium fibres (e.g., horsetail, cashmere, alpaca) for progressive support and resilient “bounce”; chemical-free fire safety.

What the recognition means for customers and farmers
For customers: naturally breathable, foam-free, chemical-free (Signature range) builds that support healthier sleep—each product linked to its farm(s) of origin by QR code. For farmers: prices agreed pre-shearing, shearing costs covered, payment within three months, and equal value for all breeds through combing and blending.

“Making in Norfolk and keeping value in UK supply chains is a choice we’re proud of,” Oldfield added. “We’re grateful to the judges and organisers for shining a light on the future of British wool—and we’re excited to keep building it.”
