Young’s hooks into gastro market with premium fish pie

YOUNG’S Seafood is introducing a Pastry Topped Fish Pie to its restaurant quality Gastro range.

Famous for its frozen seafood, Young’s continues to grow by understanding, following and, in some cases, leading shifts in the market. One trend in the food industry, especially with food that is quick and easy to prepare, is ‘premiumisation’.

Yvonne Adam, Young’s marketing director, told Made in Britain, “The frozen fish ready meals category is worth £44m and our Gastro Pastry Topped Fish Pie is a truly indulgent addition that gives consumers more choice and taps into the trend towards premiumisation.”

The takeaway for other Made in Britain members is what’s going on in your markets and sectors? Is there a shift towards premium price and quality? Or could there be? Is there an opportunity in the market for the manufacturer prepared to supply something special?

Inspired by popular restaurant dishes and gastro pub trends, the Young’s Seafood Gastro Pastry Topped Fish Pie is a traditional meal with a twist. The 375g pie contains chunks of fish in a mature cheddar, smoked fish and chive sauce with florets of broccoli, and rather than the traditional potato topping, the Gastro twist is its light and crispy puff pastry topping.

So come on, Made in Britain members, what’s your posh fish pie?
