PROTECTING LIFE AND PROPERTY
Our fire rated glass floors have been designed with the paramount consideration of protecting life and property. All our glass floors incorporate a specialist Pilkington glass who are world leaders in glass manufacturing.
As fire takes hold the rapid and dramatic increases in temperature can rise from ambient room temperatures to over 1000° within seconds.
Modern fire strategy demands that different sections of buildings are adequately separated from floor to floor to contain the break out of fire, allowing adequate time for escape or evacuation. Safety is our number one priority when manufacturing these high quality fire rated glass floor panels.
How long can fire-rated glass floors withstand fire?
What are the applications of fire-rated glass floors?
How are fire-rated glass floors tested?
Do fire-rated glass floors require special maintenance?
Fire-rated glass floors come with different protection ratings, usually 30 or 60 minutes of protection.
This indicates that the glass can stop hot gases and flames from passing through it for the allotted amount of time, enabling a safe evacuation and limiting the spread of fire.
Some floors can withstand temperatures up to 870°C, making them ideal for high-risk buildings.
Fire-rated glass floors are suitable for multi-story homes and buildings.
These are ideal for escape routes and lobby areas, enhancing safety and maximising natural lighting. Fire-rated floors can also be used as another component of fire safety in a building.
Fire-rated glass floors undergo rigorous testing to ensure they adhere to European and British safety regulations, including EN 13501-2.
Through this testing, their resistance to fire exposure is assessed, with particular attention paid to their integrity, which keeps smoke and flames out, and insulation, which restricts heat transmission.
This testing is conducted in controlled environments to mimic real-life situations.
Beyond routine cleaning, fire-rated glass floors don't require much further care.
However, it's crucial to ensure that any supporting structural components, such as frames, are also fire-rated and remain in great condition. Conducting yearly inspections to guarantee continued adherence to fire safety rules is also beneficial.
