Technology literally shapes the world around us. From carts to cars, pens to keyboards, ENIAC to raspberry-pi’s, there’s no denying that tech trends have drastically changed the way we live and interact with the world. But what does the future hold for the world of technology?
British Product Design Consultants, Design Reality, discuss three technology trends to look out for.
Sustainable (Green) Technology
While Design Reality has already won awards for its contributions to sustainability in the STEM field with our reusable respirator designs, there’s still much more to be done.
As the climate crisis looms and natural resources deplete, more and more people and governments are looking at ways we can reduce our emissions and live more sustainably.
Technological advancements will have a huge impact on how sustainably we can live. From more energy efficient devices, to more considerate materials, the products we use – and design – make a difference.
Decentralised power grids, green hydrogen and increased wind and solar energy consumption will all help too, but ultimately the future is in our hands.
A safer living
There’s no denying that the coronavirus pandemic affected everyone.
While facemasks and social distancing might be a thing of the past for most people, the awareness of respiratory viruses and harmful particles in the air is at an all-time high across the world.
Greater awareness and increased funding in the sector will continue to see advancements in Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE). Such as the two-way filtering Clir and the remote monitoring Fit Check system.
We’ll also continue to see development in other filtering devices, such as air purifying exhaust filters for cars and busses.
A minimal approach
With energy prices going through the roof, house prices falling and the general cost of living raising every day – not only will the public be spending less on the latest tech, they’ll be looking for energy efficient alternatives.
Only a few years back, almost everything was becoming ‘smart’ with built in Wi-Fi and display screens as standard. But as customers look to reduce their household running costs, they’ll be prioritising low-energy consumption, cheaper products, over the latest tech. Minimal, no-frill, designs which do the intended function and that’s it.
