Automated Staff Gauge Provides Early Flood Warning for Social Housing Development

Team RDN are pleased to have provided assistance to a social housing development in West Sussex, subject to flood risk, through the provision of an automated flood staff gauge on the river bank that communicates wirelessly to sirens an beacons on each floor of the development and simultaneously to the sites centralised alarms system.

The system which is 100% autonomous of the internet and cellular networks utilises RDN’s unique BDT level sensors and offers a battery life of 20-years.

Flood beacon includes three stages and 110dB sounder. The green stage illuminates whilst the health messages are received OK from the staff gauge and the power is on. The amber illuminates whenever the level 1 trip point is reached in the staff gauge and red when the level 2 level is reached. The sounder can be pre-set to activate at either level 1 or level 2.

Unlike other systems the trip levels can be fully adjusted up and down simply by moving the position of the two BDT sensors. Testing is simple too and requires nothing more than a bucket of water.

Running cost is zero and there are no risks of obsolescence due to cellular migration due to the BDTs communicating using the RDNET1000 data protocol.
