Tawi, the outdoor stove from ESSE, has four specialised cooking surfaces and steals carbon out of the carbon cycle, which means you can eat well, knowing you’re doing good.
This simple and efficient woodburner runs on just a handful of dry twigs and is ready to cook almost as soon as it’s lit. Much quicker than a conventional barbecue, the compact and robust Tawi has a boiling plate, burner, warmer plate, and toasting grill - ideal for camping, glamping or al fresco cooking at home.
The flue of the Tawi Stove can be detached for easier transportation.
The Tawi is extremely versatile, with each cooking area offering a different average temperature, so you can fry, boil, steam, grill and even bake, wherever your adventures take you.
Created in partnership with Graeme Boyd-Moss of CarbonFarmers.World, the unique design of the Tawi means it offsets its own carbon footprint. Instead of releasing clouds of woodsmoke into the air, it produces clean-burning wood gas, and biochar as a byproduct. This biochar is made up of solid carbon; carbon which the Tawi prevents from becoming polluting carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. As well as being a long-term carbon store, biochar can be used for a variety of useful purposes such as enriching your soil and eliminating household odours.
Graeme says: “The original idea for the Tawi came about as a clean-burning means of cooking on our family smallholding in Kenya, which also gave us activated charcoal for water filters.
“Working with ESSE to bring the Tawi to life in the UK has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a fun and fantastically versatile cooking appliance in its own right, before you even consider its impact as an innovative carbon harvester.
“Developing this technology with ESSE now is very timely, considering that the UN Climate Report suggests we need to stop producing carbon dioxide and start ‘burying’ it.
“With energy costs continuing to rise, and the fact that the Tawi is so quick and easy to use, we genuinely opt to use it at every opportunity at home.”
ESSE Sales Director Mark Blewitt adds: “Since 1854, ESSE has been known for efficient cookers and stoves hand-built in the UK; an enviable reputation we strive to maintain. Over the years, ESSE’s clean-burning stoves have been recognised with a string of British patents reflecting our commitment to the environment and high-quality product performance.
“The Tawi sits well within the ESSE family and we’re proud to have partnered with CarbonFarmers.World on it. This outdoor cook stove combines multiple benefits without compromise: it will suit foodies and adventurous chefs equally as much as gardeners and environmentalists. All for just a handful of fallen twigs.
“In the current climate, we know carbon neutral cooking is good... but carbon negative is even better.”
The Tawi cook stove retails from £195.
