Focus SB is shortlisted for the regional Make UK Awards 2023

Focus SB is shortlisted for the regional Make UK Awards 2023 in the SME of the year business category!

This time last year the company's MD Gary Stevens welcomed visitors from Make UK, The Manufacturers’ Organisation, Bhavina Bharkhada, the then Head of Policy & Campaigns and Lois Wilkins Regional Membership Manager, South (now Lois Persaud, National Partnership Manager Make UK) who thanked us for sharing our green investment strategy and challenges as an employer seeking to inspire potential job seekers to find their future at Focus SB saying: “Thank you for all of your intel, the insight is so valuable for us and we hugely appreciate the time taken out of your day”.

Following the private tour of the main factory Bhavina Bharkhada said: “Great to spend the day with Focus SB down near Hastings, understanding how they’ve embarked on both their automation and net-zero journey. Despite the pressing issues of the day going green, as MD Gary Stevens puts it, “is just the right thing to do”.

More recently the company has welcomed Jim Davison, Region Director, South of England, who has visited by invitation from  Head of Strategic Partnerships Duncan Ray to meet fellow members of 1066 Manufacturers, a local manufacturing group of which Focus SB is a founder member, to discover more about the pressing issues facing us and neighbouring vibrant manufacturing businesses in the surrounding area.

2023 has seen the company achieve the first ever King's Awards for Enterprise for its success in International Trade, shortlisted for two categories in the SBID awards for its latest exceptional product Renaissance to be officially launched at this year's Decorex (stand A74), and winner of  2022's Insider's Made in the South East Awards in the Manufacturing Apprenticeship/Training Scheme Award category for which Focus SB automatically qualifies as a finalist for the  Made in the UK Awards 2023. The company also celebrated its first product award for its innovative Control switches launched in 2022 in the [darc] awards, announced on the 30th March and also its first ever Made in Britain award in December 2022 for MD Gary Stevens in the 'Rising Star' category which recognises an individual creating new pathways and piloting change, especially through innovative grassroots sustainable initiatives. Quite a year to date!

Membership of Make UK has been invaluable in gaining visibility for Focus SB and ensuring the company is part of the collective voice when it comes to influencing Government policy. In 2020 Gary Stevens, contributed to a major Make UK report available for download from Make UK Responding Resetting and Reinventing UK Manufacturing Post Covid-19 published in association with Santander containing detailed analysis of the Covid-19 impact on UK manufacturers.

Focus SB is pleased to be taking part in this year’s National Manufacturing Day on 28th September organised by Make UK and designed for manufacturers to target local educational establishments with positive messaging about manufacturing as a career.
